How to EAT HEALTHY & Lose Weight | A Beginner’s Guide to Nutrition

(bombastic music) – Look, I get it. Eating healthy is hard. The lure of junk food is irresistible and impairs our better judgment. (upbeat music) But good nutrition is
actually really simple. (bombastic music) (upbeat music) There are a whole bunch of different diets out there right now. Atkins, Paleo, Keto, vegan, slow carb, et cetera, et cetera. Don’t get me wrong. All these diets are solid choices. But the sheer amount of
information out there about what you should or shouldn’t eat can get really overwhelming. And then there is that
whole fiasco a while back about the whole food being wrong. No wonder everyone is so damn confused. But the thing is, every
single one of these diets has transformed someone’s life. Why is that? Well, it’s probably ’cause
there are a few things that everyone can agree on
when it come to eating cleaner, regardless of what diet
they are following. Eat a lot of colorful vegetables. – What? Is this all vegetables? Who ordered all vegetables? – I did. – Mommy and daddy have
been telling you this ever since you were a little tyke. Should really go without saying, but I’m gonna say it anyway. Eat your damn veggies. Obviously, you’ve got your green veggies, which you should eat a lot of, but you’ve also got
veggies of other colors that you should also eat. In fact, your food palette should be more colorful than a legion of Autobots. These colorful foods offer
a variety of benefits that will only improve your life. Here’s a little cheat sheet. Also, for extra credit, you
can take a green supplement. Basically, a green supplement is a blend of fruits and veggies in a powdered form. So go to Amazon and
search green supplement and you’ll get a lot of options. Green supplements are good for filling in the gaps in your diet because it’s not always practical to eat a large variety of vegetables. Eat like a damn adult. I got this one from
Strength Coach Dan John. Are you still eating Honey Nut Cheerios? No? Froot Loops? Maybe some Pop Tarts with a side of Cocoa Puffs for breakfast? Anyone who’s ever had Lucky Charms knows how tempting it is to dip
your fingers in the bowl and pick out the little marshmallows. But let’s cut the crap
and call it what it is. That’s not breakfast. That’s a dessert or a very childish cheat meal. And while we’re at the topic
of childish cheat meals, knock of the candy, cookies,
donuts, and other sweet stuff. You’re a grown-ass adult, not a child. So stop eating like one. So what if your workplace has
free donuts in the morning? Do not give in to your baser instincts. Every time you bite into that donut, you are prioritizing short term pleasure over long term health. Or you can keep eating candies
and donuts if you like. It’s your life and your body after all. Just remind me to send
you a box of diapers for your next birthday. No, they’re not for your newborn. Look at the ingredients list. If it looks like a chemical
shit-storm, don’t eat it. Take a look at this. That, my friends, is a Twinkie. Let’s look at the
ingredients for a second. Enriched bleached wheat flour. Enriched with, what now? Oh right, with B vitamins. Wait, why are there
quotations around the B? Suspicious much? And bleach sounds like the
thing I put in my washer. Not sure I want to be consuming that. Partially hydrogenated vegetable
and/or animal shortening. What the hell is this and/or bull crap? I mean is it and or or? (sigh) And of course there’s the
good old polysorbate 60. I mean it must be better
than the 59 generations that came before it, right? Don’t get me started on Blue
1, Blue 2, Yellow 5 and 40. Are these starfighter call signs? – Red 10 standing by. – [Man Over Radio] Red 7 standing by. – Red 3 standing by. – Red 5 standing by. – Maybe the name of a
new erotic romance novel called 40 Shades of Red
with a double penetration in blue and five yellows? Hmm? Well I guess it has a certain ring to it. Only highly processed food is gonna have a ridiculously long list
of ingredients like that. Yes, I know, they might even have some vitamins and minerals in them. But again they’re probably synthetic, and I don’t really like the sound of that. You know there are a
lot of things out there that are unprocessed and have a lot of natural vitamins and minerals in them? Yeah those things are called
meats, fruits, and veggies. You might have heard of
them from time to time. But maybe that’s just me. If your caveman ancestors
wouldn’t recognize what you’re eating, please reconsider. Humans and proto-humans
have been running around eating plants and animals
for millions of years. It was only until fairly recently, about 10,000 BC, that we started farming. And since then, we’ve
developed all sorts of weird goodies and
Frankenstein abominations that we call food. Sorry, Pop Tarts, you taste good, but you’re a damn freak show. And what in the ass is that thing? If all else fails, look
at what’s on your plate. Would your primitive ancestors comprehend what it is you’re eating? If the answer is no,
then please reconsider. Our bodies evolved to the way they are now by eating real plants and animals. That is what our genes want us to eat. Eat fewer calories than you burn. Alright, this is mostly for those of you who are looking to lose some weight. Look, I’m sorry, but
there’s no way around it. You have to eat fewer
calories than you burn. Yes, that means you need to
track what you’re eating. At least for a while, until
you get the hang of it. There are plenty of tools that you can use to count your calories, but I personally like MyFitnessPal. You’ll also need to find out how many calories you should be eating. A really quick and easy way to do this is to multiply your body weight by 12. That’s approximately how many calories you should be eating if
you want to lose weight. You can calculate your calorie maintenance and eat a few hundred
calories less than that. There are a few different
ways you can do this so I’ll leave a few
links in the description. With that said, no method
is 100 percent accurate, so be sure to experiment and
make tweaks as necessary. Follow these simple guidelines and you’ll have this
whole healthy eating thing down in no time. If you found this video useful, don’t forget to give it a like
