The American system quoting a serving size is useless. If the food comes in pieces, give a weight for each piece, but otherwise state energy and nutrient content per oz/100g as it is much closer to the human perception.

This is basic knowledge. Also I think it's a shame that labels in America are portion-based. Here in Denmark the label is always for 100 g of the product. Some brands also include the numbers per serving size if they want to. But always having the nutrition information for 100 grams means you can easily compare all products with each other before you make a descision on what to buy. I was recently in America and it annoyed me that I had to calculate all the numbers to work out which product had the least sugar, salt etc per 100 grams. Much harder to compare between portion sizes because they are not all the same for each product!

The fact that new label will differentiate added sugars from total sugars is great because I feel like a lot of people confuse natural sugars from added sugars and treat them the same. A new step in the right direction!😁

I'm actually happy to see a row for added sugars will be on the new label… Trying to figure out why fruit smoothies had so much sugar was frustrating until someone explained to me that it's natural sugars not added sugar.

A thing that many companies do is that sometimes when they say that a food contains 0% of something, it actually could contain small amounts of it. This is very common with trans fat, which you should never consumed if manufactured.
